Pre-Pointe/Pointe

Pre-Pointe is designed for ballet students who are preparing to transition into pointe work. This class focuses on building the foot, ankle, leg, and core strength necessary to safely and confidently support the body on pointe. Exercises emphasize proper alignment, turnout, and balance, as well as increased flexibility and control. Students also refine their demi-pointe work, relevés, and échappés, and begin using therabands and conditioning drills to target pointe-specific muscles. Pre-Pointe requires consistent participation in two full ballet technique classes each week and a commitment to working with precision and focus. DO NOT purchase pointe shoes without permission from the Creative Director, who will determine eligibility and timing for students to go en pointe.

Pointe is an advanced extension of ballet training, reserved for dancers who have demonstrated the strength, technique, alignment, and maturity needed for safe pointe work. Students learn to execute classical ballet movements fully en pointe, developing stability, control, and artistry while working through increasingly complex combinations at the barre and in the center. Pointe demands exceptional discipline and body awareness; dancers are expected to apply corrections immediately and practice strength-building exercises regularly outside of class. DO NOT purchase pointe shoes without permission from the Creative Director, who will determine eligibility and timing for students to go en pointe.

NOTE: Students must be simultaneously enrolled in a minimum of 2 weekly hours of ballet 2 or 3 and have instructor permission in order to enroll in pre-pointe/pointe.

Classes include immersion in the musical language of many cultures, playful music games with rules, opportunities to lead, balanced with opportunities to collaborate, deep exposure to complex, fun, and rockin’ music, many chances to solo, improvise, and work in ensembles, and rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation, and innovation.

Testimonial from Miss Lindsey: “I’m consistently amazed by the growth I see in my dancers after just one semester of Rhythm for Dance. Their musicality becomes more refined, their timing more precise, and their connection to the music noticeably deeper. This class truly builds skills that carry into every style of dance—and students then move with more intention, confidence, and expression. It’s one of the most valuable aspects of our program. I highly recommend it to all of our young dance students!”
